How to use a name coloring page
A child's own name is the first word they care about, which makes it the best first word to color and trace. Print the page, say each letter out loud while your child colors it, then let them trace the dashed row with a chunky crayon or a thick pencil. For a two-year-old, coloring the big letters is the whole activity. For a four- or five-year-old, the tracing rows turn it into handwriting practice without feeling like a worksheet.
Teachers use these for cubby labels, first-week-of-school activities, birthday crowns (cut the name out and glue it to a paper strip) and name-recognition games: print each child's name, cut the letters apart and let them rebuild it. The outline is the same extra-thick style as the rest of the site, about 6 points on the page, so wobbles stay inside the letter.
Tips
Use the child's everyday name, not the full formal one, so the letters are big. Names longer than about eight letters get smaller to fit on one line; if a name is very long, make two pages with the first and last name. For sturdier pages, print on card stock. Everything is drawn in your browser and nothing you type leaves your device.

Is the name coloring page really free?

What age is a name coloring page good for?
From about age two, when children start recognising the first letter of their name, up to five or six when they are learning to write it. The big outlined letters are for coloring; the dashed tracing row underneath is for children who are ready to hold a pencil.
Can I make one for a classroom?
Yes. Make one page per child, or print a set with each child's name for a back-to-school or birthday activity. Names up to 14 characters fit on one line; longer names are scaled down to fit.
